Lamiastrum galeobdolon – yellow archangel
This mottled green groundcover is eye-catching around Atsalearinne (Azalea Slope) and Terassi (the Terrace). It comes from Central Europe and the variety usually cultivated has light patterning on the leaves. Its long runners gradually form a dense network and root at the nodes. Yellow Archangel has yellow lip-like flowers in the spring. The stalks rise above the leaves in order to attract pollinating insects.

Yellow archangel prefers the shade; its leaves fade in the sun. It does best in areas with other groundcovers and similar requirements. The leaves of different shapes and shades of green then form a fine mosaic.

Yellow archangel also appears under the name of Lamium galeobdolon or Galeobdolon luteum, depending on how it is classified.
